What are the governance practices in Belgian Listed Companies end 2018?

GUBERNA heeft een nieuwe visienota ontwikkeld over de Staat als aandeelhouder. Dit initiatief volgt op het Memorandum rond de rol van de Staat als aandeelhouder dat GUBERNA ontwikkelde in het kader van de federale verkiezingen van 2014. 

Traditionally the board of directors is seen as a the pivotal organ in corporate governance and from the beginning, an evaluation of its functioning is included in the recommendations.

The 'glass ceiling' is familiar to us all, as are the quota laws, because they are supposed to bring solace. For GUBERNA, however, this is not the focus. We are indeed a great advocate of more women in managerial positions and especially on boards of directors. It is not for nothing that we have been addressing this topic in our operations for a long time. The successful mentoring programme is one example of this. But gender is only one piece of the puzzle. 'Diversity' is the greater goal for GUBERNA.

Anyone who follows the press regularly will find a quote, headline or article on the role of women and the obstacles they encounter on their way to the top. We are all familiar with the 'glass ceiling' and the quota laws. However, for GUBERNA, this is not the main focus. We are strong advocates for more women in leadership positions and especially in boards of directors. It is no coincidence that we have been addressing this topic throughout our activities for a long time, of which the successful mentoring programme is one example. But gender is only one piece of the puzzle. Diversity is the higher goal for GUBERNA.

Vorig jaar deze tijd bevonden de intercommunales zich in het oog van de storm. Zeer grote raden van bestuur, een ondoorzichtige kluwen aan participaties en enkele schandalen rond vergoeding zorgden voor een hevig debat. Biedt het nieuwe Decreet Lokaal Bestuur een antwoord op dit debat? Dat zal de toekomst moeten uitwijzen, maar het staat vast dat het Decreet de intercommunales uitdaagt op vlak van ‘goed bestuur’. GUBERNA licht er enkele uitdagingen uit.
